Everyone is a bit different when it comes to their most productive work hours, but for me, I have great focus in the morning right up until lunch. My energy and focus goes downhill fast after that. I don’t like drinking caffeine throughout the day just because I know it can be hard on our bodies’ natural nervous and cardiovascular systems. It can also affect sleep, and quite honestly, I’ve always wondered if coffee is more of a mental thing than a physical one. Do you actually FEEL different when you drink caffeine in coffee or do you gain energy because you think/expect to after drinking it?
Whatever the case may be, I had to decrease my daily cup of coffee because my stomach was starting to get messed up because of it. Now I have it as a weekly treat rather than a daily necessity.
Instead, I’ve switched caffeine sources to green tea extract which still gives a boost, but it’s not nearly as potent as coffee. You can find green tea extract in a variety of energy drinks and supplements now, but I’d much rather drink something yummy than take it in a pill form. For these recipes, I use a clean pre-workout called Energize. By “clean” I mean no artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, etc.
DIY Tropical Energy Drink Recipes
1
servingsIngredients
1 cup frozen fruit like strawberries, mango, pineapple, raspberries, or cherries
1-2 cups water
1/2 – 1 scoop Energize (lemon, fruit punch, or mixed berry)
Handful of ice cubes
Optional: An extract like a fruity extract or rum extract
Optional: Squeeze of fresh lime juice to make it a bit more like a margarita
Directions
- For a lightly blended drink, add all ingredients except ice to the blender. For a frosty blended drink, put all ingredients, including ice, into the blender.
- Pour into a fun glass (not optional!) – maybe rim it with some salt or sugar if you’re feeling spicy
Notes
- There is approximately 100g of caffeine in 1 full scoop of Energize. You’ll still be able to taste it if you do 1/2 a scoop so you decide how much caffeine you need.
